Dez Bryant at the Gridiron Celebrity Hoops Classic

I had the opportunity to shoot the Celebrity Gridiron Hoops Classic at Hinkle Fieldhouse sponsored by Jam Sports Productions. One of the best things about this was the laid back atmosphere with the celebrities. One of my favorite players was attending the event so I was really excited to see him in person. I am a huge Dallas Cowboys fan so I was curious to see wide receiver Dez Bryant play. I was in the process of shooting the jerseys of the team members when Dez walked in. He was really generous with his time and I even got to talk Cowboys football with him. It was a great experience and he couldn't have been nicer. I told him I would send him some photos of the game, but never thought one of them would end up on his Twitter page. I just saw that he switched his profile photo to one I took at the event. Super Cool:) Here are a few of the photos I got of him.

Ronald Nored Tooth | Butler Bulldogs Basketball

This past weekend Butler point guard Ronald Nored hit the floor going for a loose ball and ended up with a chipped tooth. It was one of those plays you knew was bad from the way he did not get up from the floor. It is now a famous tooth as it has been running across the internet. I was amazed when he ran back out to the floor to re-enter the game. What a great leader and example this kid is. When he checked in it was one of the loudest ovations I have ever heard at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Turner Family | Family Portraits

I got a email a few months back from someone wanting photos a few days before Christmas. She went on to explain that family members from New Jersey and Colorado were coming in town and they wanted to surprise their parents with a portrait of the whole family. Great idea. This family was fun, I wish they lived close so I could get them all individually. The little guy stole the show, he loved the sound of the shutter and I had no problems getting him to look at the camera. I can't wait for them to pick the photo that will become a canvas on their wall.

You normally do not pay attention to the officials at games, I know I never did. That isn't the case anymore. The football official you see in these are someone special...my big brother. It is strange to watch a game and just pay attention to the official on the sidelines but I now do that every time he is on ESPN doing a game. I also know how much work he puts into being a great official, these guys put in a lot of hours getting ready for games on Saturday. I still smile every time I hear someone yell at him during a game. This ref is my hero, he is a great dad and a great friend. He is the guy I admire and also want to beat every time we play golf. I am very proud of him.

I thought this would be a unique set of portraits. I wanted to shoot some of them as if I was a player looking at him. The other setup I wanted was the thought of a lot of flags flying around. I think they turned out interesting.

Well this family is one of my favorites, every year we find something fun and wacky to do. They always have such great energy and are a blast to photograph. I always leave their session feeling good because I know I captured their family personality. I think you will see plenty of "fun" in these photos. One of the great things about being a photographer is following a family every year and being about to capture that little place and time. It makes me proud to walk in their house and see so many of my photographs hanging on the walls. It is a honor to be a small part of this families life.

I met Chris in downtown Indianapolis for his senior session. We walked around and just found some neat places for photos. Chris was relaxed and very comfortable in front of the camera. His Aunt is a photographer and I could tell he had been in front of the camera a lot. I had a great time meeting his family and walking around downtown.

My Beautiful Niece

One of the great things in life is seeing your family grow. This is my oldest niece and see is growing up way to fast. She is such a beautiful girl. I have been trying to get her out for photos for what seems two years and I finally got her. It is hard to find a free weekend when you are a busy teenage girl. We had a blast running around and finding neat spots to shoot. Jo you are great, Love you.

X-Ray Wall Portraits

A local surgery group needed an idea for some portraits for their 40th year anniversary. They wanted something different that would would show their unique talents. They specialize in conditions of the upper extremity. I cam up with the idea of building a big x-ray wall and then putting them in front of it. It would symbolize some of the patients they had treated during their service in the community. I started with two 3x8 pieces of plexiglass and painted them white. Once I hung x-rays on the "lightbox" I was ready to light it. For this I used Pocket wizards to make the job wireless and easy. I placed a Nikon sb-900 on and boom with a Flex unit in group A and modified it with a softbox. I used a sb-800 in SU mode for the hair light. Then I turned my attention to the back of the wall. I used some work lights initially to see what the light looked like and then turned them off when it was time for the photos. Behind the wall I used 3 sb-800's and and 1 sb-900 on a flex unit in Group B. This made it possible for me to control the front light on the subject and the wall individually with the Mini TT1. The Pocket wizards were perfect for this. I desaturated the x-rays in post so they all had the same look. I think the final photo is unique and tells a specific story of these physicians.

Basketball Portraits | Sports Photography Fishers, IN

I was fortunate to get a few high high school basketball players from Roncalli High School to give me a few hours to try out some new lights. They were great kids and I had a blast shooting them. I can't post all of the creative poses that we tried but they were in the zone. I was using my new Pocket wizard Flex and Mini system and they performed very well. Here are a few of the photos. The Next two photos were inspired from a fstoppers shoot. I wanted to give it a try.

Butler rebounded from their first loss of the season beating Ball State 88-55. Shelvin Mack scored a game-high 19 points and Matt Howard added a double-double to lead #16 Butler.

The Butler Bulldogs ended their preseason with a 83-54 win against Marion College. Shelvin Mack led the Bulldogs with 20 points. The NCAA Final Four banner was hung from the rafters of historic Hinkle Fieldouse before the game.
